May 23, 2010 i made this tape for you…

dear casette tapes: you rock my 80’s loving face like joey effin’ lawrence. {especially mixed tapes} mixed tapes for all reasons : scratchy radio recordings, copies of copies, true tape to tape dubs…nostalgic sigh… so i mention this to a friend the other night & he busts out his amazingly disorganized collection {he’s ocd like a mofo so this was a surprise} so he busted out a tape player & the adventure began…

cds have thier own charm of course but nothing like a tape. you couldn’t have a box of cds without cases, lug it around for 15+ years & expect it to play but a tape : oh yes, they endure.

wanna know about about a person : look at thier tape collection. what was found {fraggle rock in meticulous detail} a dozen tapes marked hell, skate, mix & such & a half dozen mystery tapes {an interview w tiffany followed by a punk cover of “i think we’re alone now” by warlock pinchers} & so much more.

the time & attention a mixed tape demanded, the tlc devoted to it : rewind : fast forward : the digi beep at the beginning of a cassette if you didn’t rewind it aaallll the way before beginning your recording… being able to simultaneously push play & play/record buttons sweeter & softer than i’ve ever kissed anyone so you never hear the tell-tale click… ah mixed tapes i love you so…

my friend is on the phone with another {guy} friend of ours talking about going through the tapes & what we found including a trilogy of tapes from the same girl. {all meticulously detailed, each with a quote about life & love along the spine~sigh~this is what teenage dreams are made of}

my boys agree : boys never listen to a girl’s mixed tape.

with the library of congress archiving our tweets: i shazam & youtube a mixed tape daily for the soundtrack of my life…now back to devouring my new favorite book…

May 9, 2010 one bad mother….
the patchwork heart represents all the amazing moms in my life.the crossed wooden spoon & feather duster because they cook & clean for you. chocolate chip cookies are my favorite.

one of my favoritest mom’s & favoritest tattoos is of my g. she is effin epic. she hates it when i say fuck. this portrait of my g was done at the philly show in 2007, also by mel d. i called her crying while he did it. not because it hurt but because it was such an emotionally significant tattoo done by such an emotionally significant artist. her name is marjory but when i was little i said “ma-gee” & everyone though i said my g & so it is. she was a nurse. when she was in nursing school she & her friends took a trip to california for a “nurse’s conference” & each day 1 would go & the other 2 would go play.
she also cut school once to go to texas & they flipped her lil red convertible & broke her leg & her neck. she also married a man named kenneth & had two kids, my mom, sandra & my uncle, tom.
her husband passed & she never really had nay other romances, none that i have heard of anyway. she is fucking amazing & she completely supports me in my career & brags about me too.
my mom. she’s nice. she had me at 21 & has had a whole basket of mess in her life. she has always supported my individuality & taught me how to cook really well, not to be afraid to wear what i want. she is a huge fan of naked pretzels. she has always supported me as a rainbow bright, starlight boot wearing badass girl. as an adult i respect her struggle. she has the biggest heart of anyone i know. she is unbridled optimism. & a very annoyingly chipper morning person. this is the only photo i have of her
the only pic i have on my laptop
another spectacular mom is my lovely bestie tallulah. she & i have been friends since 2006 i think. she is an amazing, fantabulous mom & wife {her hubs makes potato mess that is amazing!}: she is stylish, funny, talented, a grate graphic designer & a super social network guru. she is great on roadtrips, takes super photo booth pictures & can be trusted with your entire heart. she will defend you to the final & call you out on being a bitch. i met her through myspazz & love her like joey fucking lawrence. when i refer to going home, it’s always her place i mean. i love her heart. white trash russians ftw. who doesn’t want a smoking hot mom like this?
tallulah13 shot by personal images
here in ok the only mom i really kick it with is andrea: another myspazz friendship. she became a client & we became friends. she was also going through a break up when i was going through my own difficult time i hjanuary & we drank lotso f vodka tonics & i second hand smoked too many cigarettes. i did get better at pool & learned about cross canadian ragweed. it’s all up hill from here. they grow good girls in oklahoma.
oklahoma girl
so happy mother’s day to all you hot mamas. i love you. you make boo-boos better, hangovers more fun & always know how to help heal a broken heart or broken nail.
February 15, 2010 Back in the air

Back on the plane, back in the air, back to the west. This time it’s Las Vegas where my feet touch the ground. This trip to NYC was FANTASTIC! So much fun!
February 14, 2010 New York Fashion Week!!!
February 11, 2010 In loving memory of Alexander McQueen
I was greeted by sad news shortly after I logged on the internet today. English fashion designer, Alexander McQueen, was found dead at his London home this morning. Here is the story from The Washington Post http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/02/11/AR2010021101929.html
McQueen’s mother passed away on the 2nd, no doubt that was hard for him to deal with, and sadly it seems that it was just too much. Suicide is so tragic. A friend of mine from college also killed herself shortly after her own mother passed away from cancer. My heart goes out to anyone who has ever been touched by the pain of suicide.
I’ll just close with some photos of his work…

February 11, 2010 Cupcake Fever!

If you follow us on Twitter or Facebook, you have no doubt seen the last 1 or 2 cupcake posts.
What’s with the cupcakes, you ask?
Well it is common knowledge that everyone loves a good cupcake. Right?!
Cupcakes each have their own unique identity, their own ‘cupcake style’; just as we each have our own personal style. Cupcakes and people really have quite a lot in common. And I just thought it would be fun to show the sweet variety of life, through cupcake. SO… now I am posting a ‘Cupcake of the Day’ every day on the twitter & Facebook accounts (I’ll try not to miss a day, but you know how life happens sometimes). ♥
If you have a cupcake that you think would make a good candidate, please let us know. You can post it in a comment below or email it to lipstickprophets.facebook@gmail.com
Let’s just finish up this post with a few links, shall we. Yes, we shall. I’m not feeling too fabulous this evening *pout* and I need a hot bubble bath… stat.
Vampire bite cuppycakes are not just for Halloween. No way! These would make a cute Valentine’s gift too. Vampires are always sexy, except for those damn sparkly Twilight effers. I’m sorry, but my vampires are one thing that I do not like to glitter in my life. That’s just me though.

And for our vegan friends (because I know we have some on Twitter) we found this version http://veganchicksrock.blogspot.com/2007/10/vampire-cupcakes-of-doom.html
Looking for a 100% fat/calorie free cupcake? Try cupcake soap. So cute! Just remember not to eat it.

This is not the most beautiful cupcake soap that I have ever seen, but the video is simple to follow. If I were making my own soap, I would just use the mold for the base and do my tops in a custom style. The fun part would really be in the decorating & scenting. You could also add organic oatmeal or coco to your soap base too. And don’t forget the glitter made especially for soap.

February 7, 2010 Featured Item!

With all the excitement about the many new projects we have going on at LP I noticed we have been neglecting to have a look over the current season!! This SUPER soft v-neck hooded tee is just PERFECT in every way. The color is a soft silvery gray and looks great paired with jeans OR leggings. Please take advantage of the FREE SHIPPING in the USA (the shirt sells for $32 but if you think about it it’s really $27 because you save the $5 shipping!) We did a ‘lil research and if you look to Alternative Apparel for a v-neck burnout you will pay $45!!!! And frankly LP burnout is 500x softer than those scratchy shirts!
Just sayin’

February 5, 2010 Recollection/ Recollecting

I will open with a pre apology for this blog… I am a weeeeeeeee bit over caffeinated. I have switched to decaf but must bang out a blogish sooner than later because if we look to the past we will see an absence of blogging. Unlike the color white which is the absence of color the absence of blogging creates nothing. And the color white is not nothing its a huge something. It’s everywhere, where as not blogging is nowhere. Fast. This blog is beginning to be the absence of interesting.
See.. I told you I am vibrating with caffeine.
Ok.. my whole point of this has 0 to do with the color white ,caffeine ,nothing or nowhere it is all about recollecting. I am thinking of taking some older LP juniors designs and “recollecting” them. For instance… This shirt I will over dye with a grey wash (to make the whole look more muted vintage colors gray and maroons, cut the neck into a boat neck and add silicone softener.
At the end of each season there are always “leftovers” of items that did not sell through completely. So I figure this is a “green” way to recycle and have less waste. The items would sell for probably around $20.
What do you think???
Worth the re-investment or get over it and make some thing new?
xoxo
Ali
